A man who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys who were between nine and ten.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member contacted the police again.
She explained Ruben then played the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
